Hygienic bed / Hygienic mattress

Would you like to find out more about bed hygiene? How do you keep your bed hygienic or your mattress hygienic? Thank you for visiting our website. Perhaps we can answer one or two of your questions about bed hygiene.

Bed hygiene measures

Airing the bedroom and mattress

It all starts with daily ventilation of the bedroom. Shock or cross ventilation for 5 - 15 minutes is most effective in contrast to a tilted window. The bed linen must be open so that at least the upper half of the mattress is exposed. The bed linen and mattress can now dry. The longer the bed remains open, the drier the bed climate will be, which is actually the aim.

Washing bed linen

It is normally sufficient to wash the bed linen every 2 - 3 weeks. However, pillowcases should be washed more frequently. We secrete significantly more fluids from our heads in the form of saliva, hair, sebum and neck sweat. The same naturally applies to the fitted sheet and, if necessary, the mattress protector.

The washing frequency must be significantly increased for allergy sufferers. The aim is to create bed hygiene that is as mite-free as possible. It is also advisable to wash the laundry at 60°C to kill the mites. Allergy-free people are much more tolerant.

Washing the mattress cover

Most people never wash the mattress cover. Often the mattress cover cannot be removed either. With removable covers, one wash per year is sufficient. Preferably at low temperatures and air-dried. This gives you the greatest assurance that your mattress cover will remain beautiful. If your mattress cover is quilted with natural hair, you should have it cleaned rather than washed.

For allergy sufferers, it is worth washing the cover often, e.g. monthly, but only very gently. Skin particles, mite faeces and mites have largely disappeared and the cover remains intact for a long time. A mattress cover with natural hair, such as virgin sheep's wool or camel hair, is therefore not recommended.

Bed hygiene with mattress protectors

Mattress protectors help to absorb significantly more moisture and release it again in a regulated manner. This is certainly a good option for people who tend to sweat. In order not to impair the adaptability of the mattress, it is better to choose a knitted, i.e. stretchy molton.

There are also reasons to protect the mattress from stains caused by liquids. The waterproof mattress toppers impair the ventilation of the mattress. It is therefore worth paying attention to the breathability of the molleton.

At Bawitex you will find the corresponding products from Lotus or Velfont. Let us advise you.

Hygienic mattress

Technogel mattresses are particularly hygienic. On the one hand, the gel topper does not allow any skin particles or moisture to pass through, so the foam always remains clean and dry. Skin particles and other dirt remain on the gel surface and can be cleaned with a damp cloth if necessary.

The covers of Technogel mattresses can be easily removed without having to lift the mattress. Then rinse in the washing machine and the bed is hygienic.
